We’ve worked with both Garapa and Kwila and choose to specify these timbers as they align with the core purpose of our practice, which is “to craft environmentally friendly buildings of place that uplift the human spirit”.
These ethical hardwoods with their PEFC and FSC certifications allow us to confidently specify these with the reassurance that they’re sustainably sourced and produced and help to protect our wider environment for the future benefit of all.
Our aim as architects is to design buildings and specify products which are as low as possible in embodied energy, sequester carbon and respond sensitively to the climate. We do this by maximizing the use of as many natural, renewable and non-polluting resources as possible.
These ethically sourced timbers help us to meet our design goals and provide building structures which are durable and sustainable.
We also like to use ethically sourced hardwoods like Garapa and Kwila as they’re easy to cut and drill. They’re also durable, hard-wearing and have a good level of stability.
Clients also respond well to these timbers due to the reasons outlined above. With very simple maintenance they are easy to look after and preserve over time.
